Solar Energy Technology Demystified

We have found an excellent news resource for local alternative energy with our friends in Montgomery County. The Residential Energy Program is a new department with the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. We’ll provide links to their content from here. Subscribe to their newsletter! Lots of great information for anywhere you reside. Enjoy and check out this great starter “Solar Energy Technology Demystified”!

DEP’s Miles Braxton explains how solar photovoltaic panels collect energy and converts it to electricity.

Why Renewables?

Renewable energy has been gaining traction in recent years. More people are seeing the environmental impacts of using fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. Burning fossil fuels to produce energy can produce hazardous byproducts – including carbon dioxide gas, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, soot, ash, and mercury. These waste gases get trapped in the atmosphere and contribute to the greenhouse effect, and in turn, anthropogenic climate change (or global warming).

Increasing energy prices and the ability to self-generate power means renewable solar energy is becoming popular across the nation. Let’s take a look at how solar panel technology works. Check out the full article for the benefits of solar energy and where the market is headed.

Going a layer deeper into how it all works.
